Challenges and Approaches to Recruitment for and Retention in a Dyad-Focused eHealth Intervention During COVID-19: Randomized Controlled Trial

Long-term “shelter in place” orders negated in-person strategies and forced researchers and participants to use online or telehealth options to continue research studies [8,9]. More importantly, for older adults and patients who are immunocompromised, like many patients with cancer and chronic illnesses, isolation was imperative to protect their health.

Advanced cancer is a “family affair” significantly affecting the well-being of the person with cancer and their family [1]. Family caregivers are at the core of patient care; they are typically unpaid laypeople, comprising close family members or friends or others who provide a significant level of support (practical, social, or emotional) to the person with cancer.

Evaluating Clinical Outcomes in Patients Being Treated Exclusively via Telepsychiatry: Retrospective Data Analysis

Rural residents are noteworthy for having limited access to in-person psychiatric care [9,11]. Even more troubling, it appears that issues of access occur independently of the patients’ health insurance status. A recent survey found that 31% of US adults reported the inability to access mental health services despite being insured [12]. Further, the medical specialty least likely to participate in health insurance plans is psychiatry [13].

However, FOCUS has several notable limitations, including an in-person delivery format that is costly and time-consuming. It is also not specific to PNS management and does not target patients with CRC receiving chemotherapy. In addition, patients with CRC are facing unequal access to palliative care and disparities in treatment [26].
