The 39-item Self-Care of Heart Failure Index v 7.2 measures HF self-care across 4 subscales: self-care maintenance, symptom perception, symptom management, and self-efficacy (α=.73-.88 across all subscales) [27,28]. Scores are standardized (0-100), with higher scores on each subscale suggesting better self-care principles. Scores ≥70 on each subscale are considered adequate; improvement of ≥8 is considered clinically significant [27].
HF symptoms are measured using the Heart Failure Symptom Survey.
