Comparison of Deep Learning Approaches Using Chest Radiographs for Predicting Clinical Deterioration: Retrospective Observational Study

The study outcome of clinical deterioration was defined as a direct ward-to-ICU transfer or ward death within 24 hours of the time of the patient’s first elevated e CART score. The chest radiograph closest to (but before) the time of the elevated e CART score was used to predict the corresponding deterioration outcome. To address variations in image acquisition and processing protocols, all radiographs were rescaled to a uniform size of 224×224 pixels using nearest neighbor interpolation.
