Exploring Stress and Stress-Reduction With Caregivers and Clinicians in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to Inform Intervention Development: Qualitative Interview Study

Exploring Stress and Stress-Reduction With Caregivers and Clinicians in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to Inform Intervention Development: Qualitative Interview Study

NICU visitor restrictions included limiting visitors in the NICU to one parent at a time, not allowing extended family visitors without special permission, and requiring all visitors to wear facial masks in the unit. We sought to collect a range of perspectives on caregiver stress and support in the NICU, so we recruited both currently admitted and discharged parents and legal guardians of preterm babies in the NICU.

Opportunities for Telemedicine to Improve Parents’ Well-Being During the Neonatal Care Journey: Scoping Review

Opportunities for Telemedicine to Improve Parents’ Well-Being During the Neonatal Care Journey: Scoping Review

Admission of a newborn to a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) places a high emotional burden on parents [1]. This often unexpected neonatal admission exposes the parents to a high risk of developing psychological morbidities, including posttraumatic stress disorder [2].

Investigating Father or Partner Involvement in Family Integrated Care in Neonatal Units With TARGET (Fathers and Partners in Family Integrated Care): Protocol for a Prospective, Multicenter, Multiphase Study

It has been validated in mothers and fathers of NICU babies in the United Kingdom [37]. There are limited validated tools to assess paternal and maternal anxiety and depression in the postpartum or NU period. Therefore, simple screening tools that are validated in primary care and the general population for patients with a variety of backgrounds and stages of life were chosen [27,38,39].

mHealth Gratitude Exercise Mindfulness App for Resiliency Among Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Staff: Three-Arm Pretest-Posttest Interventional Study

mHealth Gratitude Exercise Mindfulness App for Resiliency Among Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Staff: Three-Arm Pretest-Posttest Interventional Study

The purpose of this study was to determine if a 3-week daily resiliency practice, prompted via a gratitude, exercise, and mindfulness smartphone app (GEM app), impacted Pro QOL, physical activity, and the happiness level of health care workers in a newborn intensive care unit (NICU) setting. The Intermountain Healthcare’s institutional review board completed and approved the human subjects research ethics review (1051038). Participation was voluntary and participants could withdraw at any time.

Health Care Professionals’ and Parents’ Perspectives on the Use of AI for Pain Monitoring in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: Multisite Qualitative Study

Health Care Professionals’ and Parents’ Perspectives on the Use of AI for Pain Monitoring in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: Multisite Qualitative Study

Unfortunately, a significant proportion of preterm infants require neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) due to their vulnerability to complications and health issues [2]. As part of their lifesaving care, preterm infants undergo an average of 10 to 16 painful procedures per day [3]. Unmanaged NICU pain has significant developmental consequences [4,5] and is one of the largest sources of severe emotional distress in parents [6]. Pain assessment and management is a critical aspect of care in the NICU [7].

Implementation of a Web Camera System in an Australian Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: Pre- and Postevaluation of the Parent and Staff Experience

Implementation of a Web Camera System in an Australian Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: Pre- and Postevaluation of the Parent and Staff Experience

Factors related to the NICU that may interfere with attachment and bonding include physical and logistical barriers to visiting, the physical environment of the NICU, parental stress, separation, and the intermittent sense of parenthood [5,6]. Web cameras provide one way for parents to remain connected to their infant when they are unable to be at the bedside and, thereby, mitigate factors that may disrupt bonding.

Understanding the Steps Toward Mobile Early Intervention for Mothers and Their Infants Exiting the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: Descriptive Examination

Understanding the Steps Toward Mobile Early Intervention for Mothers and Their Infants Exiting the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: Descriptive Examination

Through an iterative process, the research team conducted a series of meetings with each NICU team to generate a referral accountability plan, which was documented by the research team and provided to the NICU team for review and revision until the NICU team confirmed that their plan was complete and accurate.

The Impact of Implementation of a Clinically Integrated Problem-Based Neonatal Electronic Health Record on Documentation Metrics, Provider Satisfaction, and Hospital Reimbursement: A Quality Improvement Project

The Impact of Implementation of a Clinically Integrated Problem-Based Neonatal Electronic Health Record on Documentation Metrics, Provider Satisfaction, and Hospital Reimbursement: A Quality Improvement Project

Golisano Children’s Hospital level 2 and 3 neonatal services were provided primarily at Health Park Medical Center neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), with a smaller level 2 care facility at Cape Coral Hospital Special Care Nursery. We chose not to include any further data in our analysis because the hospital NICU moved to a new facility in mid-May 2017.
