Performance of an Electronic Health Record–Based Automated Pulmonary Embolism Severity Index Score Calculator: Cohort Study in the Emergency Department

Performance of an Electronic Health Record–Based Automated Pulmonary Embolism Severity Index Score Calculator: Cohort Study in the Emergency Department

The PESI score combines demographics (age and sex), comorbidities (history of cancer, heart failure, and chronic lung disease), vital signs (temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation), and mental status to stratify acute PE patients according to 30 days all-cause mortality, with classes I (PESI score One potential barrier to increasing outpatient management of low-risk PE is identifying appropriate patients [5,14,15].

Use of Web-Based Surveys to Collect Long-Term Pediatric Outcomes in Patients With Twin-Twin Transfusion Syndrome Treated With Fetoscopic Laser Photocoagulation: Observational Study

Use of Web-Based Surveys to Collect Long-Term Pediatric Outcomes in Patients With Twin-Twin Transfusion Syndrome Treated With Fetoscopic Laser Photocoagulation: Observational Study

The gold-standard treatment for TTTS is intrauterine fetoscopic laser photocoagulation (FLP) of placental vascular anastomoses, which halts the abnormal blood exchange and yields better outcomes [5]. Despite this therapy, twins who survive TTTS may experience major disability at birth likely secondary to hemodynamic changes that occur in utero or sequelae of prematurity, as the average gestational age at delivery is approximately 32 weeks [6].

Biochemical Changes in Adult Male Gamers During Prolonged Gaming: Pilot Study

Biochemical Changes in Adult Male Gamers During Prolonged Gaming: Pilot Study

The parameters that have been investigated most thoroughly are blood glucose and cortisol. For blood glucose levels, gaming does not appear to increase glucose levels within the first 20 minutes of a gaming session [15,16]. Chaput et al [15] reported that gaming increased blood glucose levels after 40 minutes of a 60-minute gaming session. Cortisol has been used as a marker of both physiological and mental stress during gaming [17-19].

Predictive and Prognostic Biomarkers in Patients With Mycosis Fungoides and Sézary Syndrome (BIO-MUSE): Protocol for a Translational Study

Predictive and Prognostic Biomarkers in Patients With Mycosis Fungoides and Sézary Syndrome (BIO-MUSE): Protocol for a Translational Study

Both MF and SS are staged according to the same tumor-node-metastasis-blood (TNMB) classification, assessing the involvement of skin, peripheral lymph nodes, peripheral blood, and visceral organs [8]. The TNMB stage at diagnosis remains the most important prognostic factor [9,10]. Many patients with early stages of MF have an indolent disease with a 5-year disease-specific survival of 89% to 98% [8,11].

Design and Rationale of Prolonged Nightly Fasting for Multiple Myeloma Prevention (PROFAST): Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Pilot Trial

Participants provide biospecimen samples (ie, blood and bone marrow aspirate or biopsy). For each blood draw, approximately 30 to 60 m L of blood per participant is collected into EDTA and serum separator tubes for immediate plasma and serum preparation, respectively, and aliquots of plasma and serum in 1.8-m L cryovials are placed in a –80 °C freezer for storage.

Machine Learning Models for Prediction of Maternal Hemorrhage and Transfusion: Model Development Study

Machine Learning Models for Prediction of Maternal Hemorrhage and Transfusion: Model Development Study

The primary outcome was a composite including all patients who received a transfusion of any blood product or had a PPH defined by documented blood loss of ≥1000 m L during or after delivery. Our secondary outcome was all patients who received transfusion of any blood product. Both blood loss of ≥1000 m L and blood transfusion are clinically significant metrics in obstetric care.

Outcomes: studies that reported at least one of postoperative bleeding and gastric leakage assessment as primary outcomes and secondary outcomes including surgical site infection, reoperation, estimated intraoperative blood loss (milliliters), operative time (minutes), length of hospital stay (days), overall complications, and 30-day mortality.

Intravenous Ascorbic Acid for the Prevention of Postreperfusion Syndrome in Orthotopic Liver Transplantation: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial

Intravenous Ascorbic Acid for the Prevention of Postreperfusion Syndrome in Orthotopic Liver Transplantation: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial

The development of PRS is associated with decreased survival, an increased incidence of postoperative renal failure, early graft dysfunction, and the need for blood product transfusion in the setting of severe fibrinolysis [6-8]. Although it was first described in 1987, its incidence has not decreased over the past decades, ranging from 8% to 35% [9-11]. The intrinsic mechanisms of PRS are complex and not fully understood.

Treatments for Trauma-Induced Coagulopathy: Protocol for a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Treatments for Trauma-Induced Coagulopathy: Protocol for a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Pathophysiology and clinical aspects of TIC comprise blood loss, consumption of coagulation factors, dilution, and fibrinolytic activation [2-5]. TIC correlates with an increased demand for massive transfusion as well as higher mortality. Thus, effective treatment of TIC is crucial for decreasing deaths following trauma [3-5]. Although the conceptual definition of TIC was proposed by the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis, the clinical definition of TIC has not reached a consensus [3].
