In the United Kingdom, medical degrees typically last for 5 or 6 years, depending on whether one elects to pursue an additional year in the awarding of an intercalated degree. Alternatively, for previous degree holders, there is a 4-year accelerated medicine course. Upon the completion of their medical degree, graduates are provisionally registered with the General Medical Council (GMC).
