Analysis of Fluoride-Free Content on Twitter: Topic Modeling Study
Since its introduction in 1942, multiple studies have consistently demonstrated the role of fluoride in reducing the prevalence and incidence of caries lesions [18]. There is robust evidence that fluoride interventions, including the fluoridation of tap water, the use of fluoride-containing oral care products, and professional fluoride application, promote favorable health outcomes [19-22].

Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) has been used successfully to stop the progression of carious lesions in people who cannot tolerate invasive treatment, including children, the elderly, people with medical conditions, and people who require additional care and support.

In this context, fluoride-containing oral care products and drinking water play an important role in preventing dental demineralization and promoting remineralization [4-6]. Nevertheless, false or misleading content on the internet continually propagates the discouragement of fluoride usage because of possible adverse health effects [7], which supports the development of dental beliefs that could negatively impact parental oral health behaviors [8].

Several treatments are available, including the use of fluoride toothpaste, the use of oral care products containing casein phosphopeptides-amorphous calcium phosphate [8,9], and the application of topical sodium fluoride varnish [10-13] with or without laser therapy [14]. Sodium fluoride varnish retains the fluoride close to the teeth for a longer time, resulting in desensitization [15,16].
