Remimazolam is a novel drug in the benzodiazepine class [19], and its effects initiate and end more rapidly than achieved with the common benzodiazepine midazolam. Remimazolam can be continuously infused owing to its ultrashort-acting profile [20]. Additionally, its clearance is not dependent on liver or renal function because the drug is metabolized by tissue esterase [21,22].
