However, the time required by parents to become autonomous is unknown, particularly in the case of premature children.
The main objective of this study is to compare the number of days required by parents of very low–birth weight (VLBW) newborn infants to be autonomous in different areas of care during the 2 periods of implementation of a parental training program.

These cities, which are densely populated with a significant migrant population, offer a representative sample for assessing premature birth incidence in China. Additionally, our research presents a comprehensive classification of premature infants. The findings indicated a higher rate of PTB in the PRD region, which is characterized by a more developed economy.

Premature birth is defined as a live birth that occurs before 37 weeks of pregnancy. The estimated global premature birth rate per 100 live births was 9.9% (13.4 million premature births) in 2020 [1]. It poses a serious health issue for children, their families, and society worldwide [2], with complications from premature birth being the primary contributors to childhood mortality. This accounts for 35% of all deaths during the neonatal period and 18% of all deaths in children younger than 5 years [3].

In 2019, in England and Wales, 49,489 premature births were recorded, and the majority would have required a neonatal unit (NU) admission [1]. Scientific and technological advancements have led to significant reductions in mortality and morbidity for preterm infants [2], and now the importance of decreasing psychosocial morbidity for the family unit is being addressed.

This is particularly true in low- and middle-income countries because of the lack of care and facilities for premature babies [4]. In high-income countries, survival rates have improved over the last 40 years owing to advances in antenatal and neonatal care, reaching 80% to 90% nowadays [5,6]. Among survivors, the frequency of prematurity-related morbidity and health problems is substantial, both in the short term and long term after birth [2,7,8]. Neonatal complications may be transient or become chronic.

The first Pedi Tools Web calculator was developed in 2011 as an in-house tool to improve documentation of anthropometric measurements of premature newborns cared for at hospital C by allowing calculation of Z-scores and percentiles, using the Fenton 2003 preterm growth chart [19], for which LMS parameters were published in 2007 [20]. The webpage was moved to public hosting in January of 2012. A screenshot of a representative Web-based Pedi Tools growth calculator is shown in Figure 2.
